BLYTHEWOOD - Matt Marsh comes home from a stressful day at work to a his loving wife and son. Even after a long day at work he is willing to help his wife, Elizabeth Marsh around the house.
Matt´s wife, says he is very funny and he is very dedicated to his job.
“Matt is very hard working, and he stays until the job gets done,” Elizabeth said.
Matt was a worker in the United States Air Force as a Tech Sergeant before he moved to South Carolina to start a job in the Blythewood community.
Matt is now the warehouse supervisor at the a manufacturing plant in Blythewood. He is in charge of inventory in a plastic manufacturer warehouse.
“The most difficult part about the job I have now is there is not a lot of structure and the department is very unorganized,” Matt said.
Military Life
Matt enlisted in the military in 1995 at the age of 18.. He wanted to work in the military because he wanted to serve his country and do something greater than himself.
In the military, Matt would work shipping and receiving cargo on airplanes.
He worked in the United States Air Force for 20 years, before retiring in August of 2015.
He says he the most difficult part about being in the military was being away from his family for long periods of time while he was deployed.
Elizabeth , his wife, says he the hardest part for her was moving from her home state of Virginia and when he would have to deploy for a long time.
“The best part of working in the military was the structure of the job and the rules,” Matt said.
Civilian Life
Matt started to work in the Blythewood community in August of 2015, after he retired from the military.
Matt says some of the differences between the job he has now and the military are working with new people and there aren’t a lot of goals set for the company.
When Matt applied for the job, he had to have a few abilities to apply for it.
He had to have a degree, a background check, a background in warehouses, and basic computer skills.
“The most rewarding thing about my job is developing a new skill set,” said Matt .
Matt has to keep everything together in the warehouse by adjusting staffing. Which is when he plans on what people or how many are coming into work that day.
Elizabeth says the hardest thing about Matt being in the civilian workforce is he has to work long hours.
Matt sometimes wishes he could go back in the military because he misses the structure.
Family Life
Matt has to deal with more things than just going to work, he also has a family.
His family consists of his wife, his youngest son, and his step-daughter.
Matt’s son, Blair Marsh says he wishes his dad was still in the military because he was so used to him being in the military.
“I’m in the middle, I liked Matt being in the military because of the community aspect of the where we lived, but I also like Matt working in Blythewood because he doesn’t have to deploy for long periods of time,” Elizabeth said smiling at the memory.
Elizabeth’s life has changed because when they lived in Virginia, she had a full time job and was a part time student.
His wife now has a stay at home job and she is also a full time student.
Matt is always willing to get the job done and is a loving father to his kids.
He always makes time to be with his family and help around the house.
“My dad is very handsome and is a great father. I’m so proud that he was able to serve in the military,” said Matt´s son, Blair.
“Matt is a hard working person and get does what it takes to the job done, he is very funny as well,” said his wife, Elizabeth.
