Another memorable game was when we beat Dutch Fork 18-8 and everyone scored in one inning,” sophomore Kendall Parker, second baseman on the varsity team, said.

Only two months into hard work and training, the varsity team did play Lugoff-Elgin, sealing their victory in the fourth inning, and scoring 11 runs in their sixth inning against Dutch Fork.

“The most memorable game to me was against Lugoff-Elgin at their home field. I've never seen our team gel and play so well together, and it was just an overall amazing, intense game for us,” senior Maggie Herrera, shortstop on varsity, said.

Seniors Ashlee Romanik and Herrera compete in their last games for Blythewood, playing pivotal roles for their team.

“Our seniors are our key players and lead the team to every win. Ashlee Romanik, the senior pitcher, has definitely stepped up her game and battled hard for us. Maggie Herrera, senior shortstop, makes a big difference batting first and getting on base and setting the tone for the game,” Parker said.

To conclude the season 16-9, the varsity team competed in district playoffs, standing 2nd in the region with an 8-2 record.

“This season has gone a lot better than anyone expected. We were placed to get 3rd place in the region during pre-season, and we did better than that,” Herrera said.

Not only have the varsity team made us proud, the junior varsity has also experienced an exciting season on the field.

“JV is more about learning the sport and improving your skills. you learn how to communicate with each other and work together,” freshman Olivia Robitzsch, catcher on JV, said. “On varsity, the games are taken more seriously. Everyone already knows how to play their position and works together really well. The chemistry is already developed between the players and the skill level is higher and more intense.”

Though the JV games may not be as extreme, they have participated in many memorable games as well.

“One of the most exciting games that I have played this year was the first real season game against White Knoll. It was such a close game being 3-2 and it felt great to walk off the field at the bottom of the seventh with a win,” Robitzsch said.

Both teams have put so much effort into doing what they love and playing exceptionally well, making this season an unforgettable one.
