BLYTHEWOOD- In room 109 at Blythewood High School is World History
teacher Evan Pressman. With purple hair, piercings and tattoos, he’s a teacher
far from the norm.
“The age and
style and maybe just the way I think of education is a lot different than other
people,” Pressman said.
With goals
to get better every day and become more developed as a teacher, Pressman is a
lot of students’ favorite teacher, Zanaa Rice being one of them.
“Mr.
Pressman’s my favorite teacher because he's like really fun, energetic, and he
teaches us and we just get our work done basically,” Rice said.
Pressman is
the child of a nurse and a doctor. When he realized he didn't want to be a
doctor, he took a different route and decided to become a teacher. With a
strong love for culture and students, he took on the role as a World History
teacher.
“He’s just a
fun teacher,” sophomore Brandon Tolbert said. “It’s always positive vibes when
we walk in his classroom.”
When
Pressman isn't at school, you can catch him at the YMCA working out, putting
his culinary skills to work in the kitchen and even working at his two other
jobs. Driving for Uber and working at Lapeer as a server.
“My whole
life is basically work, but I like it. So I’m always busy doing something,” he
says.
Nine hours,
and 537.7 miles later, Pressman’s decision to move from Ohio to Columbia was
finally confirmed. Pressman then decided to make a living teaching.
“If I have
one piece of advice it would be just to remember why you got an education in
the first place, and then stick to it and bring your own personal flavor to
whatever you want to do,” Pressman said.
Pressman is
a prime example of taking your own route, and doing what makes YOU happy as an
individual.
“Mr. Pressman
is the best teacher at Blythewood High,” Tolbert Said.
Gladly,
moving thousands of way from home was worth it. At Blythewood High, Mr.
Pressman is always welcomed with open arms.
