Junior Varsity begins preparing for upcoming soccer season

BY OSAGIE EKUE, Sophomore

BLYTHEWOOD-- Coach Nicholas Hendrix explains how Junior Varsity soccer team will prepare for the upcoming soccer season at Blythewood High.
“First, we will have a clear understanding of our goals and what we need to do to make this season as fun and as much of a learning experience as possible. We will then work during off season so that we can be at our best during the actual season,” Hendrix said.

Hendrix then explains what equipment is needed to help the team train during the preseason.

“We will need several more good condition soccer balls of course, but things like more cones, and better goals would benefit us tremendously!” Hendrix said.

Hendrix takes his coaching as an essential to players' outcome also.

“I will make sure the decisions I make as far as players positioning, and discipline is as fair as possible and beneficial to the team,” Hendrix said.

He then said how he feels about the skill set of the players he has seen so far at conditioning this year compared to last years’.

“Well, we have a lot more players out this year, mainly freshman. It’s kind of hard to compare this years participants with last years, but the quantity is more this year than it was last year… so hopefully we’ll have better talent,” Hendrix said.

The key success for this upcoming soccer season is important.

“The want for victories, and the capability of learning will ensure us a great amount of success this year,” Hendrix said.

Goals are important to Hendrix, and he feels they are necessary for any team.

“My goal this year is for a better season than last years. Also to better the players playing capabilities as much as possible, as a coach should do,” Hendrix said.

In addition, how he achieves this goal is important to Hendrix.

“I plan on achieving this goal through my relations with the team as a whole, and the individual relationship with the players. Also, with dealing with players that want the same amount of success that I want for them,” Hendrix said.

Hendrix also plans on focusing and bettering the JV team to improve the team altogether.

“The right mindset from the player everyday at practice and attitude will better the team as a whole,” Hendrix said.

Two sophomores from Hendrix team last year will  prepare for this upcoming season.

Grookett feels that his contribution to the team is important.

“I will bring forth hard work and dedication for myself and my team,” Grookett said.

He said what will enable him for success.

“I will make sure this happen through working hard, pushing for success of both myself and my team mates,” Grookett said.

Grookett then expressed why he felt that contribution will be important.

“I feel through hard work and dedication to the team will be able to improve and bond into a more cohesive group,” Grookett said.

Sophomore Austin Cotton said what he felt about this upcoming soccer season and preparation for it.

He said what he expects this year for his team.

“I expect a good team and lots of great work from a great team,” Cotton said.

Improvement seems pretty assured by Cotton.
