Blythewood High School Honors Forum Students Earn State Awards

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood High School Honors Forum students senior Kelvin (KJ) Mack, and juniors Madison Kelly and Nicholas Orr were winners in the paper category of the South Carolina National History Day competition held Saturday, April 22 at Westwood High School. The paper category involves the creation of an original research paper of over 2,300 words in length with over 50 sources used in their paper.

Mack, Kelly, and Orr were selected out of over 250 state-wide entries, and will now compete at the national level in June at the University of Maryland.  This makes the second year in a row that BHS has earned the top three spots in the state competition. The students also finished as the top three in the Midlands Competition in March.

“These three students have worked tirelessly over the past several months conducting research, analysis, and writing,” Social Studies teacher Scott Auspelmyer said.  “Blythewood  High is honored to have such great students and their work representing our school at the national competition that will take place next month in Washington, D.C."

Paper topics:

Madison Kelly - The Age of Horned Helmets: How Vikings Changed the World

Kelvin Mack - The Napoleonic Code: A Revolution in Lawmaking
