Blythewood High School SIC Wins Riley Award

On Saturday, March 7, at the SC-SIC Annual Meeting at  River Buff High School, Blythewood High School was named the winner of the Dick and Tunky Riley Award for School Improvement Council Excellence.  

Established in  2002, the award is designed to bring honor to the School Improvement Councils and their members across South Carolina who volunteer their time to work to improve the more that 1,100 public schools in the state.

Blythewood High School’s SIC is one of five South Carolina School Improvement Councils (SICs) that were named as 2015 award finalists for their accomplishments in parent and civic engagement.

The other finalists are J.L. Mann High SIC (Greenville County Schools), Myrtle Beach Cluster SIC (Horry County Schools), North Augusta High SIC (Aiken County Public School District), and Rudolph Gordon Elementary SIC (Greenville County Schools).

The SC-SIC Riley Award is named in honor of former South Carolina Governor and US Education Secretary Richard Riley and his late wife, Tunky.  

The award symbolizes the couple’s commitment to quality public education.  SC School Improvement Council was established in state law over 35 years ago to provide the member training, technical assistance, statutory accountability, and other operational resources necessary for the continued success of the community-based SICs in each of the state’s K-12 public schools.
