Sedio Leads Award Winning Culinary Program

BLYTHEWOOD -- Blythewood High School's Culinary program is one of the most notable features of the school. Chef Tom Sedio came to Blythewood about two years ago and has taken control of the prestigious culinary program.

Some students do not know much about this relatively new teacher. He is an enthusiastic teacher, and he takes his job seriously. His past experience and training make him one of the most interesting teachers in the school.

Sedio had an early start in the culinary field and has formal education in the industry.

Keiner Receives National Silver Key Award

Blythewood High School student, Justin Keiner has received a
National Silver Key Award from Scholastic Art Awards for a digital art piece he created in Photography class.  His instructor is Ms. Gina Taylor.

Dr. Arthur Turfa to Release Book of Poetry

Dr. Arthur Turfa's first book of poetry, Places and Times, has been released by eLectio Publishing from Little Spring, Texas. The book reflects on places, people, and events that influenced and shaped who he is now. Turfa has previously been published in several other poetry magazines; in fact, his dissertation has been published in Germany. He has taught since 2007 at Blythewood High School and as an adjunct at Midlands Technical College since 2005. 

The official launch event for Places and Times will be Thursday, April 30, from 4:40-6:30 PM at the Blythewood Arts Center, 152B Blythewood Road.

JROTC Hosts 5K Run

On April 25th, 2015, Blythewood High School's JROTC will be hosting a 5 kilometer race at Blythewood High School. The 5k is designed to celebrate the 99th anniversary of the JROTC program. JROTC programs around the world are encouraged to participate as the goal is to break the Guinness world record for the most people starting a 5k race at the same time. Please register at amazing JROTC5k.com to reserve your spot for the run. The run starts at 12:00 noon.

James Palmer, III, Appointed to West Point

Blythewood High School senior James Palmer, III, has been appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point.

James has received various honors and awards.  He is a member of the National Beta Club, the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, the National Spanish Honor Society, and Blythewood By Design Leadership Team. He is involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Teen Talk, Center for International Studies and Languages, and Boy Scouts of America.  He was the Rookie of the Year for Varsity Cross Country at Blythewood.  He lettered in Track and Field and has an academic letter.  James was the recipient of the All-American Scholar Award and earned Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America.

Orchestras Receive Highest Ratings at Statewide Performance Assessment

Friday, October 21, 48 ninth graders, 60 students in the BHS
concert orchestra , and 21 students in the BHS advanced chamber orchestra performed at the statewide concert assessment.

All three BHS orchestras achieved the highest ratings possible from each judge!  Their director is Chris Corde.

HOSA Attends State Leadership Conference

The Blythewood High School Health Occupations Students of America group attended the state
leadership conference.  It was the largest showing of students in HOSA history with just under 1500 students competing. Placing in the top three allows students the opportunity to compete at the national conference in Anaheim, California later in June.  The BHS HOSA had a great showing with two students qualifying for the national conference and several other students finishing in the top ten.

FBLA Members to Participate in National Leadership Conference in Chicago

Blythewood High School Future Business Leaders of America

members participated in the 2014-2015 State Leadership Conference in Charleston, SC.  Four out of the ten students to participate are headed to the National Leadership Conference in Chicago, which will be held June 29 through July 2, 2015.


Student earn Sparkleberry scholarships

The Sparkleberry Fair Scholarship is a $1000.00 scholarship awarded to a Richland School District
Two senior that has a 3.0 GPA and one that demonstrates the need for an academic scholarship. The scholarship recipient must plan to attend a South Carolina four year college or university.  Blythewood High School is pleased to announce the following Sparkleberry Fair

Inabinet inspires students

BLYTHEWOOD- Steve Inabinet (his students and team call his Coach Nabb) is a Personal Health teacher and girls basketball coach at Blythewood High School where he had been since the school opened in 2005. 

In college he majored in Health and Physical Education (Biology was his minor) and taught as soon as he could in Richland School District One. 

Inabinet was first introduced to teaching basketball when he was teaching physical education which was one of his first jobs out of college. 

“I never really thought about it at the time but I figured since they were offering, why not give it a shot,” Inabinet said.
