How we Should handle Clown Sightings

By A’DIONNA BENJAMIN, Freshmen
BLYTHEWOOD-- On Sept. 1, CBS news uploaded a new article “Chief on clown sightings: The clowning around needs to stop.”

Even though the clowns have been sighted nationally. Some local citizens of the community have been interviewed to get their insight and opinions on this topic. The first interviewed was Jeannine Lemmons mother of high school student.

“This problem is everyone's problem a community problem a national problem. This is a universal problem, instead of waiting for someone to fix it, we all should help,” Jeanne Lemmons, whose child attends high school, said.

Lemmons said the best thing she believes that she can do is call the cops, be on the lookout and be informed and informative to others.

“There is a reason why they are doing this To put fear in the community which would start confusion and start dividing areas. This way they could concur what they want, whatever that is or this can be a simple scare for Halloween. You don't know,” Lemmons said .

“She would feel anxious/nervous about going out at very early/late hours and I would call the cops, take pictures, videos and make sure if anyone else was around that they knew about its presence,” said BHS student Amy Houston.

“The community should help the cops set up security cameras where these sighting have been claimed. People should be more cautious about where they go during late hours. I wouldn't go out at night or go out with a group of people so that I wouldn't be alone,” Houston said.

“I feel the clowns are doing this because they want something to do with the kids,” Houston said.

Pinkey Lawson is a police officer;  the person the Houston and Lemmons would call for help.

“The community should report any sightings as soon as possible. She will then be on the lookout and try to identify anyone who looks suspicious or fit the description,” Lawson said.

"No sighting have been reported to the city of Columbia but if there is we will handle them in the best way we can,” Lawson said.

“Every situation has a solution but trying to get that resolution is going to be a tackle not just locally but nationally also. We have let the perpetrators know that we are going to do everything to apprehend them so we have to make sure we are visable in the communities before everything get too out of hand,” Lawson said.
