BLYTHEWOOD-- Looking at all of the teachers around Blythewood High School, Coach Preston Thorne stands out the most.

Thorne is one of the most respected coaches at Blythewood High School, because of the way he works with faculty and students.

“I think Coach Thorne is one of those coaches that values character education, and believes that being a good person will transfer on the field as well as it does in the classroom,” said English I teacher Candy Rowland.

Thorne is very respectful, always makes the people he works with very happy and is a pleasure to be around.

“I was immediately impressed with Coach Thorne and his commitment to coaching. He’s very knowledgeable...I love his coaching style, and we demand that our players play up to their potential and work hard,” said Coach Carl Startsman.

Thorne is the one of the hardest working coaches and teachers, because he is teaching an informational subject. Being the only person who teaches African American Studies takes a lot of work, so it is an accomplishment that he balances teaching that subject along with coaching football.

“A lot of the stuff I learned about black history I learned in college. I wanted to give students the opportunity to learn about it,” Thorne says.

“Coach Thorne is a very content teacher. He works very hard to make sure that these kids are prepared for the next level of social studies. I think kids really enjoy his teaching style,”Rowland said .

Thorne is also an inspiration to students, because he makes them want to work harder in everything that they do.

“Coach Thorne is an inspiration to me because everything he does, he puts all of his effort into it and it always pays off in the end,” says Senior Micah Byrd.

“I have many role models and I think it’s important to have many role models in different aspects of your life,” says Thorne.

Thorne also won Teacher of the Year for the 2015-2016 school year, because of his remarkable accomplishments and his extreme dedication to the school.

“In fact, I was one of the many teachers that recommended him for Teacher of the Year. He teaches students in a way that energized them and makes them want to be successful,” said Rowland.

Coach Preston Thorne is one of the most outstanding teachers at Blythewood High School. He has a great character, he puts in the hard work, and he has a very positive attitude.
