Batman ready for life beyond Blythewood

BY SKYLAR BATMAN, Freshman
BLYTHEWOOD--High school is a place to make memories, get prepared for college, have a blast, and friendships that may last a lifetime.

Alyssa Batman is a senior at Blythewood High School, and she thinks there's a HUGE difference between being a freshman and being a senior.

“My first day of high school was embarrassing, yet fun getting to meet new people,” Batman stated.

First day of high school is very nerve racking, meaning having to worry about meeting new people, finding classes in the gigantic school, and making first impressions.

The difference between Batman's freshman year to senior year so far is shes more involved in the school, plus freedom is a huge difference.

If she had a choice to go back and do things differently her freshman year Batman said she would definitely take the chance and care more about grades because now she has to make up from it.

“Whats been special about my senior year would probably be turning 18,” Batman said.

Senior year is the most important year in high school, lots of challenges to face, as well as keeping your GPA up so you're more likely to get accepted into colleges.

“Ninth-twelfth grade are very important years in life because it determines if you're going to make it to the next step, meaning college or even a good job,” Batman said.

Batman’s freshman year experience was a little scary at first going into a whole new environment but once she got used to it she had a blast!

“Batman Improved everyday, but one thing that really stood out to me was her maturity in life, and the importance of her grades,” Batman's father shared.

But Batman specifically said her biggest change in high school would be growing up, and being more mature and realizing what's really important in life.

College is Batman's next step, her main goal was to maintain a 3.4 average, take classes that would help her in the future, and to prepare for the real world.

What’s so important with Batman's senior year is that it’s her last year with family, friends, and people shes known since elementary, plus last year at home.

“I’m proud of finding my strengths in photography and being able to be a part of Miss. Blythewood,” Batman stated.

A memorable experience was her junior year, Batman's photography teacher placed her photos in a gallery that won first place out of about 500 pictures.

Also this year, her teacher chose one of her photos and placing one in the South Carolina State fair.

Junior year Batman decided to be in the Miss Blythewood pageant, she did not win but she had an extraordinary time.

getting involved in high school is very important because it may lead to future jobs, scholarships, or even just a passion.

Students all over think that these years are just a joke, but really it’s like a test and if you pass then you make it to college, if you don’t then you're out of luck.

School is sometimes taken for granted by some students, but really its a free ticket to get you where you need to be in life.

“Everyday I see some of my students wanting to learn, try harder, study and some that don’t care enough to make a good grade,” 3rd grade teacher Leslie Batman said.

Statistics from University of South Carolina shared “more kids that don’t have a lot at home try harder and study harder for themselves, unlike kids who get everything handed to them.”

Batman suggested there should be a program for students that may need extra help in a curriculum, possibly a period.

“When you're a freshman try to get as involved into the school as much as possible, if you don’t I bet you’ll regret it,” Batman stated.

A personal experience Batman had shared was she had went to a different school her freshman year, then transferred and didn't get as involved as she needed to get that year.

Achieving goals in Batman's years of high school is something that she hasn't finished, meaning she has a couple more goals to accomplish.

“Community service, creating friendships, and making those bonds with teachers are all very important so that when you need them they will always be there for you,” Batman stated.

“I can’t wait to see what my future holds after I graduate from high school,” Batman said.
