Jamrog motivated for success

BY COLIN MILES, Junior
BLYTHEWOOD-- Going through the hallways, many notice a student standing over 6 feet tall walking proudly with his Michigan Wolverine apparel on. In the classroom, he excels in the books and makes high grades on most assignments given.

Nikolas Jamrog is a member of many clubs and currently plays basketball and runs track for Blythewood High School.

Jamrog is an athletic and intelligent junior who looks to excel through all obstacles put in front of him.
Personality
“I would describe myself as a person that's not afraid to express his opinion, is full of energy, and is generally very intelligent and nice,” Jamrog stated.

Jamrog is well-liked through many different friend groups

"He’s a nice person who is always there when people need him. He is funny and a great person overall," junior Jordan Postal said.

As a well-rounded individual, Jamrog expresses his confidence as a person through his abilities on and off the court, participating in various clubs offered at Blythewood High School.

“I currently participate in Leo Club, National Honors Society, National Science Honors Society, and I am a member of the basketball team,” Jamrog said.

Jamrog feels joining clubs at Blythewood is important when applying for college because they love to see dedicated and involved students join their university.

In particular, he wants to attend the University of Michigan upon graduation of high school, as Michigan is where his family is from.

“I believe that my education is more important than my athletic career because athletics can only get you so far in life and will eventually dwindle, and knowledge will stick with you for your entire life,” Jamrog stated.

Jamrog firmly believes education is the most important route to take in life rather than athletics because of everlasting knowledge learned while in school, while athletics is only temporary for most.

Athletics
The countless hours of hard work and dedication payed off for Jamrog as he made the B-team basketball squad in 9th grade and JV in 10th grade. He also says he has learned a great deal from basketball and it has taught him as an individual.

“Basketball has affected me as a person because it has built up my perseverance and has allowed me to understand that in order reach your fullest potential, you have to constantly work with 100% effort no matter the boundaries ahead of you,” Jamrog stated.

It is apparent he has been working for two years in order to be the best on and off the court, hoping to impress his teammates and those constantly around him.

“Nik has a unique athletic ability. When he plays basketball he can defend and he has a nice shot, so it fits perfectly while in the game,” junior Jeff Bills said.

Jeff has played basketball with Jamrog since Sophomore year on the basketball team and they work great as a duo at the center position.

Along with his athletic and educational success, he hopes to continue his prosperity as he goes on later in life.

“My main goal in life is to be happy and believe that I have truly have had a successful life because of my position at my job, my family that I expect to have, and the circumstances around the family that I expect to have,” Jamrog said proudly.

As a family man, Jamrog believes in doing everything possible to make them proud and happy. He is convinced he will be successful in whatever career he chooses.

“There really aren't any similarities between basketball and track other than they both take a lot of speed and endurance. Difference-wise, basketball is a team sport and track is more about individual success,” Jamrog stated.

Other than physical ability, he learns two totally different aspects of sports, team and individual competition, learning how to work with other people along with learning how to get things done alone. Both of the aspects can be used for everyday life, so he is learning important lessons early in life.

Being an athletic individual, Jamrog has played various sports other than basketball and track.

“I have participated in baseball, and at a very young age, soccer,” Jamrog said.

Jamrog has been heavily involved in sports his entire life and looks to keep improving every day through practice and dedication to each sport he takes on.

Jamrog has high expectations for the legacy he will leave as he graduates from Blythewood.

“I want to be remembered as a student who proved, by taking AP classes and being involved in sports, that it's not impossible to both be involved in athletics and be a good student that maintains good grades. I want to be remembered as someone who was successful,” stated Jamrog.

He has high hopes for those following in his footsteps at Blythewood and would like to leave his mark as a successful student who can balance athletics and education triumphantly.

Nikolas Jamrog is a well-rounded and successful individual who cares about his education and athletics, who is a trustworthy friend, yearning for success throughout life.

Walking through the halls, Jamrog is enjoying life at Blythewood hanging out with friends and participating anything available.
