Opinions differ on Google Classroom

BY JACQUEZ BRIGHT, Freshman
BLYTHEWOOD -- Google Classroom is used throughout among middle schools and high schools in Richland School District 2. At Blythewood High School teachers and students expressed their thoughts on the topic of Google Classroom and parent portal

Google Classroom usually works by a teacher giving students an assignment, the student complete it,then turn it in when the student is finish. After that, teachers can see whether the student did it or not and whether it is turned in on time or late.

That makes Google Classroom relevant and takes away the need for paper and pencil.

The website blog.mimio.com suggests 1 reasons why Classroom is so efficient.

Reasons rage from “It’s  better for students who struggle” and “Google Classroom helps you to communicate more efficiently”.

Web page design teacher Ms. Austin thinks that Google Classroom will be here to stay. “It is very convenient, and you can keep up with your work” Austin said.

It gives you the right equipment to save and upload and that parent portal helps her sister see her children grades and communicate with teachers.

Pressman world geo/world history Mr.Pressman believes that Google Classroom is effective.

“I can see it last 10 years…. It all depends on the ingenuity and evolution of other programs and networks until something else comes around and it will be elite for 20 plus years,” Pressman said.

Pressman also believes that it’s a more helpful way for students to turn in work.
Algebra teacher English also agrees with the system. “Most students have smart phones and it’s as easy as a click of a button or the tap of a finger to submit an assignment,” English said.

Both have different opinions on Parent Portal connecting parents to student grades.

Pressman prefers up close face to face meeting while English is accepting with the parents having the teacher information and can check their children’s grades.

Students at Blythewood agree that Classroom helps them become organized with their work and everything is right there for them.

Students agree that it is easier for them to turn in work on time than regular pencil and paper.

“It I had homework on paper I would probably forget about it,so Google,” sophomore Raekwon Sumter said.

All of the students ideas on Parent Portal were agreeable that it is a easy way for them to know what classes to work on, and they seem to enjoy that they have the power to check on their grades and possibly fix them.

Both teachers and students enjoy these two systems in the district. Google Classroom and Parent Portal seems to be the main source for productivity for the next couple years or so.
