Volleyball travels to Wando for 3rd round of state playoffs

BY LAURYN COLEMAN, Sophomore
BLYTHEWOOD-- The State Volleyball Championship will be held Nov. 1 and the Blythewood Bengals are striving to get there.

Sophomore, Colleen Finney stated as a sophomore, her role on the team is to be a leader.

“My role on the team build up leadership skills for future games and as of right now she feels as if there is a void to fill with leadership on the team,” Finney said.

Head coach Mary Hall feels the leadership needs to improve if the Bengals are to advance in the playoffs.

“I feel as if there is a leadership position that needs to be filled. There’s a lot of talent and I would hate to waste such talent because of a lack of leadership,” Hall said.

Hall has been leading the Lady Bengals success ever since taking over. According to Cola Daily, “The Bengals have won six region championships since Hall took over in 2007 and have missed the AAAA state playoffs just once.”

The Bengals have won 10 of the last 11 region titles.

Some players feel as if the lack of leadership could be their undoing. SEC Kentucky commit, Isabella Bell stated “There’s no way we can win state with a lack of leadership, let alone region. Lexington is looking really good this year and it’s because of their leadership.”

Yet, some players still have hope that the future's looking bright.“I hope we find the leadership we’re looking for, we’re chasing a ring this season!” Finney declared.

The Bengals travel to Wando Thursday, Oct. 26 to take on the traditionally strong Warriors in the 3rd round of the state playoffs.
