How Students feel about the new iPhone 7

BY SOFIA CROWLEY, Freshman
BLYTHEWOOD-- On Sept. 16, Apple announced the iPhone 7 along with the Apple Watch Series 2, saying goodbye to the headphone jack.

The recently released iPhone 7 comes with new and improved camera systems, water resistance, a better display, and a better battery life but doesn’t contain a headphone jack.

Many people are questioning the business on their decisions, and wonder why they would take the risk.

“I’m fine with it being gone but what is the point and why did they do it so unexpectedly?” freshman Macy Kimpson said.

When consumers first heard of Apple’s announcement, most found it unnecessary.

“Getting rid of the headphone jack is uncalled for, the iPhone 6S was just fine, they are trying to do too much,” freshman Brenden Rogers said.

According to The Tech Portal, Apple took out the headphone jack for space inside the phone so that they can include the A10 fusion processor which adds in 2 hours of battery life and makes the phone 40 percent faster. Removing the headphone jack also allowed the iPhone to be splash, water, and dust resistant.

A great deal of people are only looking at the consequences of having no headphone jack rather than looking at the benefits as well. After considering the benefits, some people changed their minds.

“I’m not against it now because I didn’t know what I could gain from getting rid of the headphone jack. They added two extra hours of life so you don’t have to worry about charging it, and it’s faster, so I’m on board,” Rogers said.

Some still stood by their opinion, and didn’t think it was worth it.

“Personally, I think that the removal of the headphone is just a loss to the design of the iPhone,” freshman Taylor White said.

Whether people agree or disagree with Apple’s decision, the iPhone 7 has already been released and open to the public. The issue is now inescapable.

This could possibly mark the beginning of the end for the headphone jack.
