BLYTHEWOOD-- For months, Blythewood High School’s musical theater class has been preparing for the musical You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.
The production opens Friday, April 17 at 7 pm and will also be shown on Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at 3 pm.
“I think they’re optimistic and they have a lot of energy, and when their mistakes are pointed out they pick it up and correct them,” stagehand Conner Estes said of the cast.
The play stars Avery Williams as Charlie Brown as well as Liza Hunter as Sally, Audrey Vail as Lucy, Sam Erard as Linus, Will Stocker as Schroeder and Taylor Farmer as Snoopy.
“The musical is basically about a day in the life of Charlie Brown, and it kind of shows how he’s always getting the short end of the deal, but at the end he decides it wasn’t such a bad day after all,” Erard said to describe the musical.
“I expect it to be a great turn out,” drama teacher Sandra Dietel said at rehearsal on Thursday. “We’ve done a lot to advertise and we’ve worked really hard on this show.”
The drama department, which includes Talented and Gifted and the Drama 2 class, has publicized the play by making posters, organizing lunch walk-arounds, and putting up character cut outs in the atrium.
For many of the cast members, this is the first time they have been in a musical, although most all of them have taken either drama, choir or both.
“Going into the class, I had no idea it was going to be this much work,” sophomore Anaiah Davis said. “But I’m really excited about it.” Davis plays the role of Frieda.
Overall, the cast is very excited for the production. Months of preparation and two straight weeks of rehearsal have been put into it and everyone is hoping the work pays off this weekend.
