BLYTHEWOOD--Blythewood High School has an amazing Culinary program for students participate in cooking different types of food and learning about all of the utensils and what it takes to become a great chef.
The class is taught by Thomas Sedio, who has a passion for cooking and loves teaching kids what he loves to do.
The class’s award winning reputation has brought families from all over to enroll their kids in the program. The culinary students were South Carolina state champions in 2010 and went on to place 14th in the nation.
The program is based off of a class in Chicago called Pro-Start through the National Restaurant Association. The three year program’s goal is to serve students with future success in culinary and cooking.
Students in the Culinary arts program have to work fast and efficiently while taking instructions and working on their food.
In 2013 Chef Thomas Sedio and his students cooked for an Italian Festival making over 1,800 gallons of tomato sauce, 300 lbs of sausage and 500 lbs of onions.
"We're not always just taking notes, he teaches us a concept and then he shows it to us and how it applies to the real world," Jeremy Agema said.
"All this stuff that we're doing, that's stuff that real chefs do out there in the real world and get paid for it, so it really shows you if you want to do this for a living, it shows you what you're looking at," Agema said.
Sedio’s 20 years of experience as a Chef along with his Blythewood High School students shows signs of future culinary leaders.
